The River City Rock & Rhythm Revue, a production featuring dozens of performers and live Rock, Blues, Jazz, Pop, Rockabilly, Swing and Country music, took place in Freimann Square in Downtown Fort Wayne last Sunday under blue skies and perfect temperatures in front of crowds that, at times, numbered more than 500 people. The free, all-ages concert, produced by non-profit arts group, Fort Wayne Cultural Affairs served a couple of purposes. The event was a special music tribute to esteemed local musician, George Ogg, whose life was cut short last January after his battle with B-Cell Lymphoma. Fort Wayne Cultural Affairs Director, Gary Doan says, “While we do not have an exact number yet, we know we definitely exceeded our goal and raised more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) to support TEAM OGG in the upcoming “Light the Night” walk. The walk is sponsored every year by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This year’s event takes place at Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne on September 25, 2011. Doan, Drummer Steve Smeltzer, who served as the Music Director for the event, and George’s wife Christina Ogg are already discussing plans to make the tribute an annual event to carry on the fund-raiser and remember the musician who inspired so much loyalty in the community. Organizers wish to thank many sponsors and a long list of performers who were responsible for the great success including, The Bel Airs, The West Central Quartet, The Rat Pack, The Kevin Piekarski Quartet, Guest Artists Jeff Stone, Chris Stone, Eric Clancy, Brian Derek, Joey Ortega, Steve Squires, Sunny Taylor, Ben Porter, Bob Ferguson, Kenny Taylor, Derek Reeves, Michael Patterson, Jim Steele, Rick Brown, Carol Lockridge, Jim Baker, Kent Klee, Andy Stout, Skip Gambrell, Jamie Wise, Shannon Persinger, Shelly Sanders, Jerry Farrington, Doug Laughlin, Todd Ramsey, Dave Latchaw, Patrick Gillian, John Weber, Kevin Drew, Don Wharton, Holly Parks. The Gaia Trio and The Airport Band. The production was made possible by generous support from The Albright-Clark Financial Group of Raymond James, Sweetwater Music, LaBov & Beyond, WBOI-89.1 FM, One Lucky Guitar, Hedgerow Promotions, Club Soda, Whatzup Magazine, Fort Wayne Reader, A Party Apart and C2G Music Hall.
